The same aspiration has always lived within us

Maple Village
Meditation Center in the Tradition of Plum Village

Our Mission

  1. Build a spiritual community committed to developing compassion and working for the wellbeing of others and society, while supporting individual growth within the community.
  2. Promote and sustain the practice of Engaged Buddhism by a multifold sangha (monks, nuns, laypeople) according to the teachings of our Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.
  3. Tend to mental health, that is, the spirit through the practice of mindfulness in daily life and deep contemplation in meditation as handed down in Buddhist teachings.
  4. Tend to physical health, that is, the body through physical exercises such as Qigong, yoga, etc. and a vegetarian, healthy and sustainable diet.
  5. Care for the Environment, for living beings, animals, plants, and minerals, by striving to preserve Earth’s biodiversity for future generations, with a deeper understanding of the interdependence of all life processes, such as by practicing Permaculture.

About Maple Village
A meditation center founded in 1985 in the tradition of the monk Thich Nhat Hanh

The Maple Village Meditation Center was founded in 1985 by the Maple Village Buddhist Society, on the belief that Buddhism—as taught and practiced in the tradition of the monk Thich Nhat Hanh at Plum Village in France—can bring many benefits to everyone.

Le Village is a large wooded area nestled in the rolling countryside of West Bolton, a municipality in the Eastern Township region of Quebec.  Walking along the trails, discovering at every turn a multitude of plants and animals, instills in us a sense of serenity and gratitude for life in all its forms.  Far from noise and pollution, our mind reconnects with its true nature.

Several four-day retreats are held each year.  During a retreat, participants gather at the main building.  A large meditation hall is located on the upper floor, while the dining hall is on the ground floor. The basement has been converted into a simple, rustic dormitory with bunk beds. There are many clearings near the main building, with plenty of space for camping—many retreat participants prefer to sleep outdoors in tents.
